Itinerary
Day 1: ATHENS Welcome. Transfer to the hotel and free time. In the afternoon you will receive information for the start of your tour through the information boards located in the hotel reception. Day 2: ATHENS-KAMENA VOURLA-KALAMBACA We leave early in the morning towards the north of Greece. A stop in KAMENA VOURLA, a beautiful tourist centre by the sea among magnificent landscapes. Continuation towards the north. We make a brief stop at the gorge where the Battle of Thermopylae took place. We visit KASTRAKI, a picturesque village with beautiful views over the entire valley where we will have time for lunch before visiting the Valley of the METEORAS, an impressive place declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will visit the entire valley and we include the entrance to one of the most famous monasteries. Arrival in KALAMBAKA, dinner included. Day 3: KALAMBACA-DELFOS-ATHENS We travel south through Thessaly. Amidst beautiful scenery we arrive at DELPHI. We include entry to the beautiful archaeological complex that dominates the Gulf of Corinth with incredible landscapes, time for lunch. After that we travel to the OSIOS LOUKAS MONASTERY, one of the most beautiful Byzantine monasteries in Greece, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its magnificent 11th century mosaics are surprising. We continue to ATHENS. Arrival in the late afternoon. Day 4: ATHENS We include a panoramic tour of Athens where we visit the Presidential Palace, the Panathenaic stadium where the first modern Olympic games were held, the national library, the bustling squares of the center; the new neighborhoods that emerged with the 2004 Olympics. We finish at the Acropolis (entrance not included). In the evening, we will transfer to the PLAKA area, a place full of small Greek taverns where you can also enjoy the rich folklore of this country. Day 5: ATHENS-TRIPOLI-OLYMPIA-PATRAS We travel to the Peloponnese region. We make a brief stop next to the Corinth Canal, an impressive work from the end of the 19th century. We continue through the mountains towards TRIPOLI, capital of the Arcadia region. We will stop in this active city and have time to walk around the Areos Square area with its cafes and restaurants. We continue our route to OLYMPIA where we will visit the archaeological site (entrance and visit with a local guide included). The first Olympic Games were held here in 776 BC, where athletes from all over Greece and its colonies participated. The Temple of Zeus, the stadium, the gymnasium and the palaestra stand out. We continue towards PATRAS, the third largest city in Greece, a lively port city dominated by a medieval fortress. Its cathedral is the largest church in Greece and next to it, the small church of St. Andrew is a place of pilgrimage. Dinner included. Day 6: PATRAS-NAFPAKTOS-MYCENAE-CORINTH-ATHENS After breakfast we take the Rio-Antirrio bridge, a spectacular suspension bridge that connects the Peloponnese with the Greek mainland. NAFPAKTOS, in the Gulf of Corinth, its Venetian fortress dominates the city and reminds us that we are in Lepanto, the city that saw Christian ships face off against the Turks, a battle in which Cervantes lost an arm. Time for a walk around its picturesque port and its pleasant old town. We continue our route following the Gulf of Corinth to MYCENAE, a colossal citadel from the 18th century BC, cradle of the first European civilization (entrance included), time for lunch and to explore the site. After this, we will spend some time in the immense fortress of ACROCORINTH, entrance included. At the highest part of the settlement lie the foundations of what was once a temple of Aphrodite. We will continue with a brief stop next to the Corinth Canal towards ATHENS. We will arrive at the end of the afternoon. Day 7: ATHENS After breakfast, our services will conclude, with the hope of having provided an unforgettable experience.
